Simpkins Edwards gives back to the community

Our staff are proud to say that they have been busy giving back to the county of Devon through several volunteering days. From litter picks, to painting and weeding, the staff have been out and about across the county, making a positive difference to the local communities.

The volunteering days started in 2018, to mark our 50th anniversary. However, we have continued to make a difference ever since, making 2019 a busier year.

Twelve of our adventurous Exeter staff spent a day at the historic Clapperentale Waterwheel in the Tale Valley, battling the heat to assist with the restoration project. The team split in two, with one half working clearing out mud from the underground tunnels, whilst the overground team lifted and emptied buckets into a tipper.

A team of nine staff were set the task of refurbishing the Scout and Guide HQ in Holsworthy. The day resulted in a complete transformation of the building and its ground, with a fresh lick of paint to the interior walls and window frames, cleared out gutters, swept paths, and overall a clean exterior.

The streets, fields and football pitches of Bovey Tracey are looking that little bit tidier thanks to our dedicated staff. During their work they received many appreciative comments from members of the public, as staff were spotted with bags brimming with rubbish.

A team of six from our Okehampton office spent a busy day painting the Museum of Dartmoor Life’s next exhibition; ‘Floral Wonder’, whilst another team of five took to the exterior, weeding the Museum’s courtyard.

We look forward to many more volunteering days and helping in our local community.
