Simpkins Edwards supporting local charities

Published on 11th December 2017

At Simpkins Edwards two of our key tenets are to have fun and to support the great work done by charities. As well as the annual event that is our Really Big Quiz, we’ve been getting involved in a number of events to help raise money for local and national organisations – and had a great time doing it.

In September we sent two teams down to Topsham Rugby Club for the annual It’s A Knockout event in aid of Exeter’s FORCE Cancer Charity. FORCE provides a range of critical services and support to cancer patients and their loved ones, as well as funding local research and equipment, and has been doing so since 1987. To do our bit towards the £1.2 million they need every year to maintain their services we dusted off our fancy dress outfits and threw ourselves whole-heartedly at, over, round, and through the course of obstacles. A wonderful day out for the teams, the families there to support them and senior partner Lynn Woodward and her husband!

The following week saw the Michelmores 5k Charity Run and another excellent turnout from the Simpkins Edwards team. 18 staff braved wet weather and slippery paths in support of another local charity – Balloons, which supports bereaved children and their families. Some great times were recorded and had, but special mentions should go to Jak Griffin and Jordan Mitchell (for knocking our partner Jean-Paul Quertier off his perennial perch as Simpkins Edwards’ running man) and partner Jon House, who travelled up from Holsworthy to take part (and showed some of his juniors how it should be done!).

Last, but certainly not least, 6 of our bravest ladies took on the 2017 Great West Run. In support of a number of excellent charities Angela Smith led the team home in a very respectable 1 hour 50 minutes. A special mention should go out to Megan Broom, who gave so much to the cause that it claimed her as a (fortunately not serious!) casualty at the 12 mile marker.

As well as looking back with a good deal of pride at the efforts of the team, we’re looking forward to doing our bit in the months to come. We would always welcome you to take part or to donate and/or come along to support us! Devon has a long and proud history of supporting those who are in the greatest need, and at Simpkins Edwards we’re building our history in supporting them.
