Simpkins Edwards is making history in its 50th year after reaching the finals of the British Accountancy Awards, widely regarded as the industry’s most prestigious accountancy accolades.

The firm, which has five offices spanning Devon, will join leading accountancy firms from across the UK at the awards dinner in September, each vying to secure the title of Mid-Tier Firm of the Year. A total of 102 accountancy firms entered the awards in what has been the most hotly contested to date.

The award shortlisting follows a record 12-month period for Simpkins Edwards, which has seen an increase in new clients of almost 70%, many of whom have adopted the firm’s innovative monthly subscription service, which has been designed to provide clients with clarity and certainty over costs.

In response to a rapidly growing client base, Simpkins Edwards has expanded its team significantly, increasing the proportion of Chartered Tax Advisers – who hold the UK’s highest level of tax qualification – from one in nine, to one in five, enabling the firm to offer access to qualified tax professionals in each of its five full-time offices.

The firm’s sector-specific expertise, combined with its drive to provide on-the-ground accessibility to top level tax, accountancy and business advice, has enabled Simpkins Edwards to provide outstanding levels of client service.

Lynn Woodward, Senior Partner commented: “We’re delighted to be in the running at the British Accountancy Awards in what is our 50th year. The shortlisting is a huge endorsement for the firm. We have invested in our advisory team and I am thrilled we now have 11 chartered tax advisers across our offices with another three talented individuals currently on course to gain the qualification.

“We are a future-focused accountancy practice, keen to make the maximum use of developing technology to ensure our clients benefit fully from the additional functionality, and time-saving, this affords.

“We believe that this, combined with the introduction of our innovative monthly packages – giving our clients the option of regular strategic meetings, bespoke sector-specific reports and a fuller understanding of their business performance – helps us stand out as one of the country’s leading client-focused accountancy practices, and a strong contender for the Mid-Tier Firm of the Year award.”
