50th Anniversary Celebrations

| September 17th, 2018

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Simpkins Edwards, and throughout the year we’ve been celebrating this in the way we know best – by getting involved in the local community!

Our tireless staff volunteers have been getting their hands, clothes, and faces dirty in the name of some great local causes. The County of Devon is a large part of all of our lives, and we are proud to be able to give something back.

In June some of our more adventurous staff had a lovely, if unusual, day out on the river in support of The Tale Valley Trust. In order to control the level of the invasive Himalayan Balsam, the Trust has been organising pulling events two or three times a year. This involves covering a seven mile stretch of the Tale, removing as much of the plant as possible. Thanks to some hard (and speedy!) work tackling the Balsam, our tireless crew was also able to clear field irrigation systems, and some clogged sections of the river itself.

The Okehampton Scouts hut was given a glorious makeover by staff from our Okehampton office. Unfortunately, due to a lack of volunteers in recent times, the hut has become tired and the grounds badly overgrown. 11 of our people swapped the office for overalls, joining the Scout leaders to give the inside of the hut a fresh paint and clearing the overgrown grounds and laying gravel. A special mention must go to Okehampton United Charities, who very kindly supplied all of the required materials.

Abbeyfield residential home received a facelift from staff of our Holsworthy office. They braved some swiftly changing July-in-Britain weather to clean and clear the gardens, and to give the lawn a good edging. After all, who doesn’t love a properly mowed and edged lawn?! Enough to lift the spirits – whatever the weather.

With further volunteering still due to take place, we’re all proud of this Summer’s efforts and the positive impact that they have had and are having on local communities.

We hope you were able to come and see us at one of the great local agricultural shows – at which we celebrated our anniversary in a more traditional fashion. Our beautifully adorned marquee was the place to come for a glass of fizz and some equally beautifully adorned cupcakes.

We look forward to seeing you out and about in the local area through the cooler climes.
