Simpkins Edwards keep the streets of Bovey Tracey clean

The streets, fields and football pitches of Bovey Tracey are looking that little bit tidier, as Simpkins Edwards staff from the Bovey Tracey office based on Pottery Road were sent out for a litter picking day-long blitz around the town, as part of the ongoing commitment to volunteering in the local community.

The litter pick, which was conducted following liaison with Town Clerk Mark Wells, is just one of the many volunteering days that Simpkins Edwards is participating in over 2019. From painting and generally tidying up the local Scout Hut in Holsworthy, to pulling Himalayan Balsam and clearing the irrigation system with Tale Valley trust, staff will be out and about across the county, making a positive difference to local communities.

The town tidy is the second volunteering day for the Bovey Tracey team who earlier this year joined colleagues from the Exeter office to plant ‘carbon capture’ trees at Pullabrook Wood on the south east corner of the East Dartmoor National Nature Reserve. Together with a host of other volunteers, they planted 600 native broadleaf saplings, enhancing the environment for wildlife following clearance of non-native conifers and seedlings by The Woodland Trust.

Julie Rose, Director at the Bovey Tracey office of Simpkins Edwards, commented: “Last year we celebrated our 50th anniversary with a host of volunteering days. We were astounded by just how much could be achieved in a single day and what a difference we could make to the communities within which we work.

“The experience was humbling, enlightening and great fun, which has given us a desire to do more. This is why our team here in Bovey Tracey, as well as at our offices in Exeter, Holsworthy, Okehampton and Barnstaple, are participating in a variety of volunteering events throughout the summer.”

Julie added: “Having had so many appreciative comments from members of the public – who saw us holding bags brimming with rubbish and thanked us for all our efforts – it’s something that we’re sure to repeat!”
